Here is a report about what actually happened at the 50th Celebration with all the festivities, plus learning about Peace Corps today and where it is going.  We learned about the impacts of Peace Corps on Dominicans, and some aspects of the impacts on Volunteers.  Have a good read HERE.

PEACE CORPS IN DR TODAY

Hotel offers breakfast, included in special reunion room rate, daily until 8:30 AM

  • REGISTRATION continues for late arrivals

  • ARTISAN FAIR & MEMORIAL, PHOTO, VIDEO EXHIBITS will be set up in the gathering area of the Hotel Jaragua for most of the celebration

  • RECORDING YOUR HISTORY: Your opportunity for oral recording, digitizing photos & documents available with help from the current Peace Corps volunteers

  • WELCOMING REMARKS
  • OPENING DAY DEDICATED TO PC AT FIFTY - RECONNECTING

  • PEACE CORPS DR 2012– PC DR Director Art Flanagan 

  • Break Out Sessions: PEACE CORPS TODAY – organized by PCDR around current program sectors such as Education/ICT, Literacy sub-sector, Environment, Health, Business, Youth, Appropriate Technology 

Lunch: VILLAR HERMANOS RESTAURANT, a superb Comida Dominicana y mas on their lovely Garden Patio, is but a short walk from the hotel

Mix & meet PCVs as well as old and new friends

  • Keynote on Dominican History: The Dominican Republic and the Role of the Peace Corps Volunteers After Trujillo – Dr. Frank Moya Pons, Historian

  • ENDURING LEGACY: Dominicans involved in these projects talk about the Larimar Story, Hosting 50 years of PCVs, Beisbol y Pollo, Pueblo Angostura in Monabao, 27 Waterfalls National Park, Scouting

Working Lunch Together: Remembering Our Time Here

Bring your lunch to workshop for your program sector hosted and facilitated by Past & Present Peace Corps staff and APCDs – organized by program sectors based on pre-registration interest…especially remembering those Dominican partners in our communities and agencies that made our service productive

Afternoon: Social Time and Optional Activities

• PCVs & THE REVOLUTION OF 1965 - panel featuring former PC medical officer, and volunteers who lived through it

FREE TIME to visit Colonial Zone, ride new Metro subway, go shopping, pool swim & relax and catch up with friends
