Two DR Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, Sarah Henry (RPCV Cambita 2002-2004) and Jacquelyn Caglia (RPCV Jaibón 2003-2005), are continuing their work in the Dominican Republic by working with Infante Sano, a non-profit organization with a mission to improve maternal and newborn health in the Dominican Republic. Maternal and newborn health in the DR is a conundrum. More than 95% of women receive prenatal care and deliver in hospitals, but health outcomes remain poor. Maternal mortality in the DR is eight times higher than in other more developed areas of the Americas and the newborn mortality rate is four times higher.......

Editorial by DR-RPCV on intertwining of Espionage and Education – (It parallels PC volunteerism and espionage perceptions.)
The following editorial appeared in the Gainesville (Florida) Sun. It is in response to the University of Florida publicly creating a spy school under the spearheading of former senator Bob Graham.
Sen. Graham's Center for Public Policy is a major new asset that will encourage student involvement in matters of national priority. Let's not, however, sabotage this marvelous new center by publicly associating it with training in covert cloak-and-dagger activities. However vital these activities may be to the security of the nation, they are alien to the mission of its universities.

tHE Challenge Fund Grows: Thanks to a number of persons who contributed donations at the end of the year and the first two months of 2008, the Community Challenge Fund donations have now passed the $100,000 mark! Big and small donations from a total of 235 donors over the years have helped push pass this milestone; and the number of contributors achieving the Co-Founder donation level (more than $3,500) grew to seven. With $123,000 committed for the matching funds, we have reached 80% of our goal. That is just amazing! Thank you all.
